Accessibility Policy
We build accessible websites for clients. This one is held to the same standard.
The short version: we aim to meet WCAG 2.2 Level AA on this site and on the sites we build. Accessibility is never finished, so if something here does not work for you, tell us and we will fix it.
Our commitment
Accessibility is a service we sell, which means this website has to demonstrate it rather than just describe it. We design and build so that people using screen readers, keyboard-only navigation, screen magnification, voice control, or reduced-motion settings can use what we make.
We treat accessibility as part of building a website properly, not as an add-on or an afterthought.
The standard we work to
We target WCAG 2.2 Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium. In practice that means:
- Text meets or exceeds required contrast ratios in both the light and dark themes on this site
- Every function is reachable and operable with a keyboard alone
- Focus is always visible, so keyboard users can see where they are
- Images carry meaningful alternative text
- Headings follow a logical order and describe the content beneath them
- Forms have labels, and errors are described in text rather than by colour alone
- Colour is never the only way information is conveyed
- Animation respects the reduced-motion preference set in your operating system
- Pages remain usable when text is enlarged
Honest limitations
Contrast ratios on this site were calculated from the HEX values in our colour palette. Monitors vary in brightness, calibration and colour reproduction, so we cannot guarantee how every screen renders those colours in practice.
Accessibility work is ongoing rather than a box that gets ticked once. As we add pages and features, some will need revisiting. We would rather say that plainly than claim a perfection no website actually maintains.
Third-party content
Some parts of a website come from other companies - embedded maps, video players, booking widgets, payment forms. We choose accessible options where a real choice exists, but we cannot control or guarantee the accessibility of third-party content, or of any website we link to.
Accessibility in client work
Sites we build are designed to the same WCAG 2.2 AA target. We test with keyboard navigation and automated checks as standard, and we can arrange screen-reader testing or a formal audit where a project calls for it.
Once a site is handed over, content added by the client - images without alt text, PDFs, embedded video without captions - can affect its accessibility. We show clients how to maintain the standard, and our care plans include periodic checks.
If something does not work for you
This is the part that matters most. If any page on this site is difficult or impossible for you to use, please tell us. We want to know, and we will fix it.
Email accessibility@riversidedigitalstudio.com or call 530-613-5438. Tell us the page, what you were trying to do, and what happened. If you use assistive technology, knowing which one helps us reproduce the problem.
We aim to respond within two business days, and to fix confirmed problems within 10 business days. If a fix will take longer, we will tell you why and offer another way to get what you needed.
Getting information another way
If you cannot access something on this site, we will provide it another way - by phone, by email, in a different file format, or read aloud. Just ask. There is no charge and no need to explain why.
